Rumi is a 13th-century Persian poet who hascaptivated the minds and touched the hearts ofthe modern-day Enneagram community, amongothers. In this mini-book, you can read one of hisprovocative and insightful poems. As with mostRumi poems, this one is delightfully ambiguous, useful for self-reflection and lending itself to avariety of interpretations. To offer Enneagram insights, read about whateach enneatype looks for and how this verysearch, when from the perspective of egostructure, does not give us what we truly longfor. However, if we move to a higher perspective, what we seek is absolutely seeking us.What you seek is seeking you

Enneagram Onelooking for perfection When seeking perfection on a day-by-day basis atthe level of personality or ego-structure, what Onesfind in return is all the mistakes and errors withintheir internal and exterior purview. But when Onesmove to a higher level, above and beyond the egostructure, Ones seek what they deeply long for –serenity and true perfection. And when they do,Ones find serenity from the outside and inside, where everything is perfect as it is, includingthemselves. What you seek is seeking you

Enneagram Twolooking for worthiness When seeking feelings of worthiness (for what theydo for others) on a day-by-day basis at the level ofpersonality or ego-structure, what Twos find inreturn is that they feel great when affirmed anddeflated when others do not respond to them ortheir actions affirmatively. But when Twos move toa higher level, above and beyond ego structure,Twos seek what they deeply long for – truefreedom. And when they do, Twos live in humilityand gratitude, find their true inner strength andwill, and live their lives without being beholden tothe reactions of others. What you seek is seeking you

Enneagram Threelooking for success When continuously seeking success at the level ofpersonality or ego-structure, what Threes find inreturn is often outward success at different levels, but also anxiety about failure, social acceptance, anda reluctance to try things they may not be good at.But when Threes move to a higher level, above andbeyond ego structure, Threes seek what they deeplylong for – a deep level of honesty and truthfulnessabout themselves and the ability to value themselvesfor who they truly are. They also find an ability to gowith the natural order and flow instead ofcontinuously exerting energy and effort to makethings happen. What you seek is seeking you

Enneagram Fourlooking for depth andconnection When seeking depth, meaning, connection anduniqueness on a day-by-day basis at the level ofpersonality or ego-structure, what Fours findaround them is superficiality, combined with anendless quest on their part for how they’redifferent, if they’re different, and how they may beinferior or superior to others. But when Fours moveto a higher level, above and beyond ego structure,Fours seek what they deeply long for – the deepestconnectivity among us and a solid sense ofemotional balance. In addition, they find a delicioussense of peace and self-honoring from the insideout. What you seek is seeking you

Enneagram Fivelooking to conserve theirenergy and resourcesFives try to conserve their inner and outer resourceson a day-by-day basis at the level of personality orego-structure. What Fives find in return is reinforcing(and not in a way that sustains them); they dobecome extraordinarily depleted unless they guardtheir boundaries carefully. But when Fives move to ahigher level, above and beyond ego structure, Fivesseek what they deeply long for – full engagementand embodied wisdom. And when they do, Fives findexactly that, from their abundance of inner andouter resources. What you seek is seeking you

But when Sixes move to a higherlevel, above and beyond ego structure, Sixes seekwhat they deeply long for – true trust in themselvesand their environment. And when they do, Sixesfind they can handle just about anything that comestheir way with ease and grace. What you seek is seeking you

Enneagram Sevenlooking for pleasure, stimuation and freedomWhen seeking pleasure, stimulation, and no-restraints allowed on a day-by-day basis at the levelof personality or ego-structure, what Sevens find isa hyper-active mind and a sense that they mustkeep both themselves and everyone else upbeatand happy. But when Sevens move to a higherlevel, above and beyond ego structure, Sevens seekwhat they deeply long for – wholeness, fullness, and groundedness. And when they do, Sevens findthat their internal world is even more fascinatingthan the exterior landscape and that real freedomis making thoughtful choices rather than havingevery choice constantly available. What you seek is seeking you

Enneagram Eightlooking for strength andinvulnerabilityWhen seeking big bold action, justice, andoverarching control on a day-by-day basis at thelevel of personality or ego-structure, what Eightsfind is that they can’t ever let their guard down orfind anyone big and strong enough to support them(as in “have their back”). But when Eights move to ahigher level, above and beyond ego structure,Eights seek what they deeply long for – the ability tobe themselves, expose their vulnerability and to besupported by others. And when they do, Eights findthat true strength comes from being bold andcourageous, yet at the same time, receptive andopen. What you seek is seeking you
